8 Days Birdswatching in Gambia

DAY: 1

Airport arrival and transfer to Senegambia Beach Hotel for an overnight.

DAY: 2

After breakfast, early departure to Abuko Nature Reserve & Lamin Lodge.

Visit Abuko Nature Reserve, one of the most accessible and rewarding birdwatching sites in The Gambia. Look for species like the Green Turaco, African Paradise Flycatcher, and Western Bluebill.

Continue for lunch at a local spot then head to Lamin Lodge, a beautiful riverside location. Take a boat trip to explore the mangroves, spotting various water birds.

Back to the hotel for an overnight.

DAY: 3

Early breakfast, then visit Kotu Stream and its surroundings, a prime birdwatching area. Look out for species such as the White-faced Whistling Duck, African Jacana, and Malachite Kingfisher.

In the afternoon, lunch at a local restaurant. Then, explore the Fajara Golf Course area for more bird species.

Return to the hotel for an overnight.

DAY: 4

Early breakfast and drive to Makasutu Cultural Forest, a beautiful and diverse ecosystem. Enjoy the guided birdwatching tour, looking for species like the Violet Turaco and Senegal Parrot.

Lunch will be served at the forest. Continue birdwatching and explore the cultural aspects of the forest.

Return to the hotel for an overnight.

DAY: 5

Early breakfast and depart  to visit Tanji Bird Reserve, a coastal reserve known for its diverse birdlife. Look for seabirds, waders, and forest species.

Lunch will be served at a local spot, then continue birdwatching in the reserve or visit the nearby fishing village for a cultural experience.

Return to the hotel for an overnight.

DAY: 6

Early breakfast and have a long drive to Tendaba Camp in the Baobolong Wetlands along the river. Arrive at the camp and check-in the rooms.

Lunch is served and in the early evening, take a boat tour to explore the wetlands birdlife.

Return to the camp for dinner and overnight.

DAY: 7

After breakfast, morning birding around the camp before havinga lunch and return to the hotel at the coast.

DAY: 8

Early breakfast and drive to visit Bijilo Forest Park for a final birdwatching session. Spot species such as the Red-billed Hornbill and Long-tailed Glossy Starling.

Return to the hotel for lunch and get ready for the departure to the airport.
