Venturing south of Spoleto, you will encounter the Marmore Falls, Europe’s highest waterfalls, with a remarkable 165-meter drop—a natural spectacle not to be missed. After savoring breakfast featuring homemade cakes and local delicacies, embark on a new excursion to explore the enchanting Valnerina region. A scenic one-hour drive will transport you to the Apennine paradise. Your first recommended stop is the exquisite Abbey of San Pietro in Valle near Ferentillo. Next, visit Ferentillo to explore the remarkable Museum of Mummies housed in the ancient church crypt, where preserved mummies offer insights into the village’s history, inhabitants, and customs. A visit to the picturesque valley of Castelluccio di Norcia, nestled in a volcanic valley surrounded by towering mountains, is a must.

The Sagrantino grape, unique to Umbria, produces a robust, age-worthy wine celebrated for its enduring flavor. Begin your day with a visit to Montefalco, aptly named the “balcony over Umbria” for its breathtaking setting. Don’t miss the opportunity to explore the Church of Saint Francis adorned with exquisite frescoes by Benozzo Gozzoli. Proceed to Bevagna, known for its charming medieval square, medieval workshops where traditional paper, leather, and wax are crafted, and well-preserved Roman mosaics.

After breakfast, check out and journey to Assisi to admire the magnificent Giotto Frescoes in the Upper Basilica of Saint Francis. Designated a UNESCO World Heritage Site, Assisi captivates art enthusiasts and spiritual seekers alike with its Old Rocca, mystical cathedral, and labyrinthine medieval streets. Following your exploration of Assisi, travel approximately 50 minutes to your new accommodation near Lake Trasimeno—a charming Agriturismo nestled amidst the hills between Castiglione del Lago and Tuscany. Roberto and his wife will extend a warm welcome, offering their wine, olive oil, and local produce. Relax by the pool or venture out to discover the idyllic surroundings.
Start the day with breakfast before embarking on a discovery of Lake Trasimeno. Choose from various options to immerse yourself in the lake’s beauty: venture to San Feliciano to explore a protected oasis where migratory birds rest during their journey from Northern Europe to North Africa. You may opt to join local fishermen for a fishing experience (supplement applies). Explore Polvese Island and conclude your day with a delectable taste of freshly fried lake fish paired with wine. Alternatively, opt to visit Maggiore Island, accessible by ferry from Passignano. This secluded island, home to only 18 residents, offers a serene escape amidst olive groves where pheasants roam freely. Explore the island’s trails, visit San Michele Church with its exquisite frescoes, and discover the ruins of an ancient castle and the quaint fishermen’s village.
