DAY 1: ARRIVAL IN VITERBO

Upon arrival in Viterbo, guests will be welcomed at an Albergo Diffuso, where they will receive a warm reception from the on-site staff, complete the check-in process, and settle into their rooms. At 16:00 an excursion to the Old Beech Wood of Monte Cimino, a UNESCO World Heritage Site, will commence, marking the beginning of a trekking adventure. This trekking activity is classified as a Type E route (Hiking), presenting a moderate level of difficulty suitable for individuals in good physical condition and accustomed to such activities. Covering a distance of approximately 10-12 km with an elevation gain of around 300 m, participants will explore the picturesque surroundings. The trekking experience will conclude at 7:00 PM, followed by a return to the accommodation.

Subsequently, dinner will be served at a local restaurant at 8:00 PM, providing an opportunity for relaxation and culinary enjoyment before retiring for the night.

DAY 2: VITORCHIANO, THE SUSPENDED VILLAGE, AND THE HYPOGEUM TOWER OF CORVIANO

The day will commence with breakfast, followed by a departure to Corviano around 9:00 AM.
Located near Vitorchiano, known as “The suspended village,” are the remnants of an ancient settlement that originated in Roman times and continued to flourish into the Middle Ages under the influence of nearby Viterbo. Exploration of these historical sites will commence from the heart of Vitorchiano, leading participants on a captivating journey through woods and hazel groves, retracing a circular route that showcases the locations immortalized in Mario Monicelli’s film “Brancaleone alle crociate,” starring the renowned Vittorio Gassman. This Type E route (Hiking) of moderate difficulty, spanning approximately 10-12 km with a vertical gain of about 250 m, offers a rewarding and enlightening experience for those well-versed in such activities.

A packed lunch will be provided around 1:00 PM, followed by a return to Vitorchiano at 2:30 PM under the guidance of an environmental expert. The visit to Vitorchiano, with its captivating beauty and rich historical narratives, will culminate with a tour of the village.
The day’s explorations will conclude at 5:00 PM before returning to the accommodation.

An evening meal at a local restaurant at 8:00 PM will offer a delightful conclusion to the day’s adventures.

DAY 3: BOMARZO, THE PARK OF MONSTERS, AND THE CHIA WATERFALLS

After breakfast, the day will commence with a journey to the Chia Waterfalls, Chia Ring, and the Etruscan Pyramid, with a rendezvous with the guide at the site around 9:00 AM.
Embarking from the quaint village of Chia, participants will descend along a scenic path leading to the gorge below, offering a Type E hiking experience of moderate difficulty covering approximately 12 km with an elevation change of around 200 m.

A packed lunch will be enjoyed at 1:00 PM before heading back to Bomarzo at 2:30 PM, accompanied by an environmental guide. The village and the renowned Park of the Monsters of Bomarzo will be explored, providing a glimpse into their historical and artistic significance.

The day’s activities will draw to a close with a return to the accommodation, followed by dinner at a local restaurant at 8:00 PM, promising a satisfying conclusion to the day’s discoveries.

DAY 4: VITERBO AND SAN PELLEGRINO, THE DISTRICT OF INTERSECTING DESTINIES

Commencing with breakfast, guests will embark on a visit to the Underground Viterbo around 9:30 AM. The Underground Viterbo comprises a network of tunnels beneath the historic center, extending beyond the city walls. An underground tour will unveil the mysterious tunnels, believed to have origins dating back over 2500 years to the Etruscan era, with subsequent expansions and adaptations during the medieval period. The guided tour will navigate through these historical passageways, shedding light on their varied uses over the centuries, from hydraulic systems to wartime shelters, providing a captivating journey through time. Concluding the visit around 10:30 AM, guests will have the opportunity to consult with on-site staff for recommendations on additional attractions and itineraries based on their time constraints.
