Round Trip Gambia – Senegal

DAY 1 : ARRIVAL

Arrive to Banjul international airport and transfer to middleclass hotel for dinner and overnight.

DAY 2 : DAKAR

after breakfast, start a Drive to Dakar from your hotel in Gambia. Lunch stop on the way. Arrive in Dakar, Rest dinner and overnight stay in Savana hotel which is situated on the petit Cote in Dakar (or similar).

DAY 3 : GOREE ISLAND

After early morning breakfast, we will drive to catch the ferry to Goree Island (UNESCO WORLD HERITAGE SITE). The Island of Goree lies off the coast of Senegal, opposite Dakar. From the 15th to the 19th century, it was the largest slave-trading centre on the African Coast. Its architecture is characterized by the contrast between the grim slave- quarters and the elegant houses of the slave traders. Today it continues to serve as a reminder of human exploitation and as a sanctuary for reconciliation. Later that morning, we will cross the ferry back to Dakar for a quick city tour of which will include visiting the historical sites, monuments, museum the independence square, the presidential mansion, the big cathedral, Sandanga market, the big mosque, the obelisk square. After lunch we continue our drive to Lompoul where we will be welcomed with coffee & tea then be taken to our tents. Later on, we will be taken to the high point of the desert to have the chance to see the beautiful sunset. After sunset, we will head back to the tents where we will have dinner by the camp fire and watch a cultural dance. Overnight at the Horizon Lodge. After an early breakfast, we depart Wassadou to drive toward Basse. At Bassang, we join the boat trip to cruise to Jang Jang Burreh for around 4 hours. Lunch will be served on the boat and this will be a real relaxing trip. While cruising, we can see crocodiles and Birds. We arrive to Jang Jang Camp for dinner and overnight. Jang Jang Burreh Camp isa typical African basic camp without electricity.

DAY 4: JOAL FADIOUTH

After an early morning breakfast, we will join some camel riding around the desert. After that a quick refreshment, get our packed lunch and then we start driving to Joal- Fadiouth. On our way to Joal-Fadiouth, we will stop at the Lac Rose. Lac Rose is not only famous for salt mining but also is an end-point for the rally’s that end in Dakar such as Paris-Dakar. After that we will continue our drive to Joal- Fadiouth. Joal-Fadiouth is a town and commune in the Thies Region at the end of the Petite Cote of Senegal, south-east of Dakar. Joal lies on the mainland while Fadiouth lies on an island of calm shells (linked by a bridge). The village has a large Christian and Muslim populations with cemeteries on another shell island. Another attraction is granaries and stilts in the water. The first president of the republic was born in Joal. After visiting Joal-Fadiouth, we will start driving to Mbour/Saly where we will be welcomed and directed to our rooms. Dinner and overnight in a middle- class hotel. Hotel Bougeinville or similar.

DAY 5 : WOLLOF

Breakfast and drive to Kaolack. On our way to Kaolack we will have the chance to visit the Fullani/Wollof Village. Kaolack which is the second largest city in Senegal after Dakar. It is fame for its salt mining. Our accommodation and lunch in Kaolack will be at Hotel Les Relais Du Kaolack. After lunch you can relax at the pool. In the afternoon you can join our guide for a walk to the City, to see the market area and colonial buildings. Dinner and overnight at Le Relais De Kaolack or similar.

DAY 6 : TOUBACOUTTA

After an early morning breakfast, we will drive to Toubacoutta, located on the Saloum Delta which is a UNESCO World Heritage Site. We will visit the National Park of Saloum Delta, this park was established in 1976, this lush national park is a water-filled wonderland with mangroves, salt marshes, islands and woodland all part of the great delta’s backdrop. Birds are abundant in this reserve, if we are lucky, we will have the chance to spot rare species like the dwarf flamingo, goliath heron and dimorph egret. There are also some 36 mammal species, including warthogs, spotted hyenas and red colobus monkeys. lunch will be served. overnight and dinner at Hotel Les Paletuviers or Similar.

DAY 7 : FATHALA PARQUE

After early breakfast, we will depart from Toubacoutta and drive straight to Fathala Park where we will do the Safari tour with the animals and optional Lion Walk. We will have a picnic lunch at the park. After lunch we will depart back to our hotels in the Gambia for an extension stay. Trip is approximately 1,100km.
